Double-clad fibers where the second cladding has a lower refractive index than first cladding, prove to be ideal structures for potentiating and tuning sensitivity in long-period fiber gratings (LPFGs) operating mode transition. When thin film is deposited on optical fiber, performs acts as barrier that initially prevents transition guidance of one modes guided cladding. Finally, occurs with increase, analogy tunnel effect observed semiconductors. This improvement been demonstrated both function thickness surrounding medium index, enhancement factors 4 2, respectively. idea reinforces performance LPFGs, adding new degree freedom dispersion turning point phenomena. Moreover, control variation effective could applied other structures, such tilted-fiber or evanescent wave sensors.
